Bengal
This is a hybrid breed, produced by crossing domestic cats with the Asian Leopard Cat. This gives them their beautiful, uniquely patterned coat. They are very energetic and love to play with everything! They are also very loving and intelligent and need lots of attention and exercise.
British Shorthair
This breed always proves popular and is native to the UK. They are commonly bred and groomed for showing. They have a soft, thick coat and stocky, rounded bodies – almost like a teddy bear! They make good family cats and enjoy spending time with their owners. They are easy-going and not too boisterous, so are much happier than other breeds to be left home alone.
Persian
The Persian cat is easily recognised for its squashed-looking face and long, luxurious fur! They are often quiet, docile, and sweet natured. They are best suited to households with older children as they appreciate gentleness. Their long coats also require a bit more grooming, but they will reward you with dedication and love!
Siamese
Siamese cats are one of the most vocal and affectionate cats. They crave human companionship and enjoy “conversations” with their humans! They have a distinctive triangular-shaped face, long ears and striking blue eyes. They can form strong bonds with their owners, even following them around like a dog! Their meow is also very distinctive and can sometimes sound like a crying baby!
Ragdoll
Ragdolls are very cute cats, both in looks and personality. They are quite large with a long, fluffy coat and blue eyes, complete with a sweet temperament. They love being cuddled and are quite innocent and naïve. They are perhaps better suited to being indoor cats as they are not very streetwise! They are gentle and calm and not too demanding of your attention.
Sphynx
This cat is rather unusual, as they are almost entirely hairless! They are usually indoor cats as they do not have a coat to protect them from the weather. They also require regular baths to keep their skin in good condition. They have extroverted and confident personalities and enjoy being active and greeting people who enter the home. They get along well with children and enjoy the warmth of cuddling up on somebody’s lap.
Maine Coon
Also known as the American Longhair, this breed is native to the American state of Maine (hence their name) and is one of the oldest known domestic cat breeds. They are the largest domestic cat breed and are muscular and inquisitive. Their long, thick fur helps protect them from the cold winters of their home state. They are friendly and gentle in nature and are said to still act like kittens well into their adult life!
Oriental
Also known as the Oriental Shorthair. They are close relatives to the Siamese cat and share a similar appearance, with a triangular face and large pointy ears. They also come in almost every colour and coat pattern you could think of! They are very loving and chatty companions, quickly creating bonds with their human families. They love to play, jump, and climb so appreciate toys and perches. They are very affectionate and enjoy sleeping next to their human in bed.
Norwegian Forest
Like the Maine Coon, this is a long-haired cat breed that is used to coping with cold temperatures as they originate from Norway. They are large and active with a strong grip, making them great at hunting and climbing. They are sweet and loving and enjoy human company and being praised. They are calm and quiet and great with children, so perfect as a family cat! They are not too demanding and are happy to be left alone in the house.
Burmese
In contrast to some of the other breeds on the list, the Burmese cat is short-haired with a satiny appearance. They appear rounded and muscular but are not heavy. They are very loving and loyal and maintain a life-long sense of curiosity and playfulness! They require lots of human interaction and form strong bonds with their owners. Their personalities are said to be like that of a dog, as they love spending time with their people and following them around!
